Hamburg is an important northern German port city connected to the North Sea via the Elbe. The city is criss-crossed by hundreds of canals, some of which are known as Fleete, and also has extensive parks and green spaces. Boats sail on the Binnenalster, which is close to the city center, and there are numerous cafés around the reservoir. The Jungfernstieg connects the new town with the old town, where landmarks such as the main church of St. Michaelis from the 18th century are located.

Fish Market in Hamburg
Practically all kinds of goods have been traded here at the Hamburg fish market since 1703. This legendary market is an absolute must for anyone visiting Hamburg. In front of the over 100-year-old fish auction hall opposite, a wide variety of products are traded, hardly any of which are safe.
Not only fish, but also fruit, vegetables and plants have been sold at the Altona fish market since the early 18th century. The purpose of opening the market in the early hours of the morning on Sundays was to get fresh fish into the kitchens of the nobility in time for church.
From fish and fruit to flowers, clothing and souvenirs - almost everything is available at the stalls of the fish market, which stretches along an open space by the Elbe harbor basin. The baskets of fresh fruit are particularly popular, often with a herring on top. "Come here, I'll throw in two salmon too!" shouts the visitors. It's up to each visitor to decide for themselves whether they are bargains or not as they stroll through the fish market.
Hamburg Dom
The Hamburger Dom is a public festival that takes place regularly on the Heiligengeistfeld in Hamburg. Every year, several million people attend this event, which takes place three times a year: as a winter cathedral (cathedral market) from the beginning of November to the beginning of December, as a spring cathedral (spring festival) from mid-March to mid-April and as a summer cathedral (Hummelfest) from the end of July to the end of August.
At each Hamburg Dom, more than 260 showmen and 110 catering outlets cover an area of around 160,000 m². In the past, interest has grown steadily: In 2007, around 7.5 million visitors were counted, while the figure rose to 9 million in 2008 and even 10.8 million in 2009. However, this trend has not continued in recent years. In 2014, around 10.1 million visitors were recorded, which was one million fewer than in 2013. Visitors to the Volksfest can expect a diverse selection of attractions, including children's carousels, lottery booths, food stalls, drinks stands, confectionery vendors and modern rides. Highlights include regular firework displays on Fridays at 10:30 pm and special themed events on the 2500 m² special event area.
HafenCity
HafenCity is home to the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg concert hall, which is a landmark of the city with its striking façade and state-of-the-art acoustics. The district also includes the Speicherstadt warehouse district, whose 19th century brick warehouses are home to Spicy's Spice Museum and the Miniatur Wunderland model railway. In Sandtorhafen, close to the bustling port of Hamburg, historic ships are moored, creating a striking contrast to the elegant apartment blocks and trendy cafés along the waterfront.
