Emigrating to New Zealand: An overview of the political system
The capital and seat of government of New Zealand is Wellington, which is the second largest city in the country after Auckland with a population of around 413,000. Since gaining independence from Great Britain in 1947, New Zealand has been centrally administered and is divided into eleven different administrative districts. Around 70% of the approximately five million inhabitants are of European descent, while around 15% are of indigenous Māori descent.
The Māori enjoy a special legal status. Te reo māori (Māori) is one of the three official languages alongside English and New Zealand Sign Language. This language is taught in schools, and there is radio, television and newspapers in Māori. There are seven reserved seats in Parliament for Māori, whose representatives are elected in special Māori constituencies. In addition, there are further Māori representatives, totaling 33 out of 120 seats in Parliament. New Zealand was the first country in the world to introduce women's suffrage in 1893. Since a change in electoral law in 1993, a personalized proportional representation system similar to German electoral law has been in place instead of the traditional majority voting system.

Climate in New Zealand: Important information for emigrants
New Zealand's climate varies greatly. The far north has subtropical weather in summer, while the alpine inland areas of the South Island can be as cold as -10°C in winter. However, most of the country is located near the coast, which ensures mild temperatures all year round. The average temperature in New Zealand drops the further south you travel. January and February are the warmest months, while July is the coldest month of the year.

Healthcare system in New Zealand: Important facts for emigrants
New Zealand is an industrialized country with few health risks. Public and private healthcare in New Zealand is excellent and easily accessible. Most New Zealanders rely on government-subsidized public healthcare, which is mainly run by the Primary Health Organisation (PHO). Private healthcare complements the public system by offering specialized procedures and faster treatment for non-urgent cases.

Emigrating to New Zealand: An overview of the economic situation and quality of life
New Zealand's gross domestic product per capita amounted to around 47,536 dollars in 2023. The Gini coefficient of wealth describes the distribution of wealth. The indicator is an established, internationally comparable measure of wealth inequality. It is measured on a scale from zero to one. The higher the value, the greater the inequality. The Gini coefficient in New Zealand is expected to be 0.35 in 2024 (source: Statista).
The twin island at the end of the world is a real dream destination for many: New Zealand combines beautiful and almost untouched landscapes with a pleasant climate and a high standard of living. Thanks to English as the lingua franca, the 600 or so German-speaking immigrants who arrive each year find it easy to settle in right from the start. Around 80% of New Zealanders own their own home, and renting, which is so popular in Germany, is alien to them. New arrivals often live in furnished apartments for a few months, but should sooner or later consider buying a house.

All Blacks
The New Zealand national rugby union team, better known by their English nickname the All Blacks, represent New Zealand in the sport of rugby union and are known worldwide for their black jerseys. Rugby union is considered New Zealand's national sport and the All Blacks are regarded as one of the best teams in the world, having a positive record against every previous opponent and usually topping the world rankings. The team is regularly considered the favorite at the World Cup, which is held every four years. They have won the title three times so far (1987, 2011 and 2015) and are the second most successful team in this tournament after South Africa. Each year, the All Blacks also compete in the Rugby Championship against Argentina, Australia and South Africa and have often won this tournament.
Rugby union has played a significant role in the integration of Māori into New Zealand society, as the sport suited their physical abilities and they were quickly accepted as equals. Before every game, the All Blacks traditionally perform a haka, a ritual dance performed by Māori to intimidate the opposing team and boost their own motivation. The team is known for its performance and is represented by New Zealand Rugby (NZR), which is one of the leading members of the World Rugby Organization. The All Blacks are currently (October 2023) ranked third in the World Rugby rankings. They have won the "Team of the Year" award several times and 19 former players have been inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame.
