Emigrating to India: An overview of the political system
Since its independence, India has developed a stable democratic system based on the fundamental principles of the separation of powers between the executive, legislative and judiciary, as well as federalism. Despite numerous challenges, surveys show broad support among the Indian population for democracy and its institutions. However, the necessary reforms are only progressing slowly due to the size and diversity of the country.
With over 1.2 billion inhabitants, the Indian Union is the most populous democracy in the world. There are regular elections, competition between political parties and fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution. Despite widespread poverty, ethnic, religious and linguistic diversity and deep prejudices between caste groups, India has managed to build a stable democratic system since its independence on August 15, 1947.

Climate in India: Important information for emigrants
India's climate is essentially divided into two zones. The north and central India are characterized by a subtropical continental climate. Temperatures there vary considerably throughout the year. In the far north, average temperatures vary between five degrees in January and 31 degrees in July. This range gradually decreases in a southerly direction. Central India has much higher temperatures than the coasts and border regions. In April and May, average temperatures there are over 40 degrees, with heatwaves of over 50 degrees not uncommon.
The southern part of the country, including the coastal areas, belongs to the maritime-tropical zone and has relatively consistently high temperatures throughout the year. On the west coast, average annual temperatures range between 29.6 and 33.4 degrees Celsius. The east coast is somewhat cooler, with average temperatures between 27 and 33.3 degrees Celsius. In the far south, average temperatures range from 29.6 to 32.9 degrees Celsius.
The Indian climate is significantly influenced by the Indian monsoon, which is responsible for most of the rainfall. Between June and October, the southwest wind brings most of the annual rainfall to the country. More than twice as much rain falls on the west coast as in the east. The Thar Desert in the northwest remains very dry even during the monsoon. Only in the far northwest of India does it rain mainly between January and August. During the winter months, a dry wind blows over India from the mainland in the north-east. The south is the only region that also receives rainfall during this time, as the wind picks up moisture from the Bay of Bengal and carries it inland.

Healthcare system in India: Important facts for emigrants
India has the most private healthcare system in the world. The cost of private medical treatment is so high that an estimated two to three percent of the Indian population slips below the poverty line every year due to this expenditure. The state-financed healthcare system is in a poor state. There is a shortage of doctors, nurses and healthcare facilities, particularly in rural areas. In large cities, on the other hand, there are five-star hospitals that also attract medical tourists from the West.

Emigrating to India: An overview of the economic situation and quality of life
India had a gross domestic product per capita of 2,410.89 US dollars in 2022. The Gini coefficient of wealth describes the distribution of wealth. The indicator is an established, internationally comparable measure of wealth inequality. It is measured on a scale from zero to one. The higher the value, the greater the inequality. The Gini coefficient in India is expected to be 0.35 in 2024 (source: Statista).
India is a country full of extreme contrasts: There are booming centers such as Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore and a growing number of enormously wealthy families, but at the same time millions of people live in extreme poverty. For those wishing to emigrate to India, it is important to be aware of these social contrasts. Around 15 percent of India's population is malnourished and one in three children under the age of five suffers from stunted growth due to chronic malnutrition. The infant mortality rate is higher than in neighboring Nepal and Bangladesh, which are among the least developed countries in the world. The Global Hunger Index 2022 classifies the situation in India as "serious". Despite these challenges, emigrating to India offers numerous cultural and professional opportunities that attract many people.

National holiday
Republic Day
India gained its independence on August 15, 1947, but the country's constitution, the so-called "Constitution of India", only came into force on January 26, 1950.
Vegetarian India
According to a study, India is the country with the largest proportion of vegetarians. Most Indians are vegetarian for religious reasons, rather than for ecological or health reasons. Even Indian meat lovers often abstain from eating meat on Tuesdays, as this day is dedicated to the vegetarian god Hanuman.
