Emigrating to China: An overview of the political system

The political system of the People's Republic of China is formally based on the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) claim to leadership over the entire country. Although there is "consultation and cooperation" with the so-called "Eight Democratic Parties and Groups", the People's Republic is an autocratic one-party system. This differs fundamentally from the two-party or multi-party systems in Western countries. The constitution of the People's Republic of China enshrines a socialist economic and state system.

The Chairman of the Communist Party is regarded as the "paramount leader" or "supreme leader" of the state. He does not have to stand for direct or indirect democratic popular election. The leadership of the People's Republic of China therefore rests solely with the Communist Party. In the 2019 Democracy Index, the People's Republic of China ranks 153rd out of 167 countries and is therefore classified as an authoritarian state system.

Climate in China: Important information for emigrants

Due to China's large size and diverse geography, it has different climatic conditions. The north-east of the country has a continental climate with warm, humid summers influenced by the monsoon and long, cold, dry winters. From the west of China, including the Taklamakan Desert, to Beijing, a dry desert climate dominates. Summers are hot and extremely dry, while winters are very cold and frosty, but with little snow. There are also large temperature differences between day and night throughout the year. The mountainous regions in the interior of the country have a harsh mountain climate with extremely cold but sunny winters.

In summer, there is occasional rainfall and temperatures remain moderately warm. In eastern China, between the Yangtze River and Beijing, the climate is temperate and characterized by the monsoon. Summers are hot, and the summer monsoon brings large amounts of rain and humid air. In winter it is cool to frosty and quite dry, with snow rarely falling. South of the Yangtze, the climate changes to subtropical and further south to tropical conditions. Summers there are characterized by tropical heat and heavy rainfall, and there is hardly any cooling at night. Winters are mild to warm and rather dry. Looking at the distribution of precipitation in China, rainfall increases from west to east and from north to south. In the desert areas and in Tibet, the annual rainfall is around 100 liters per square meter, while in the southeast of China up to 3000 liters per square meter fall. Most of the precipitation falls in summer.

Healthcare system in China: Important facts for emigrants

Expats moving to China will find that the quality of healthcare varies greatly. In urban areas, residents generally have good access to public and private hospitals. In rural areas, however, medical services are limited. Healthcare providers tend to be located near hospitals rather than local clinics. Western expats rarely use public medical facilities in China. Waiting times can be long, and locals sometimes wait days for treatment. However, despite the language barrier and slow service, the quality of medical expertise is generally good and comparable to Western standards.

In some public hospitals, especially in large cities, there are international clinics known as VIP wards. These are designed to bridge the gap between the public and private healthcare systems. The cost of medical treatment in these clinics is higher, but still cheaper than in private hospitals. The treatment is usually of a higher standard and the medical staff often speak English. Most expats in China opt for private hospitals, which are usually found in large urban centers. Although the cost of private healthcare services is higher than in the public sector, they are generally more in line with the standards seen in Europe or North America.

Can I use my own container that I already own for the move with DACHSER & KOLB?

What types of transportation do you offer for overseas relocation?

It is generally possible to carry out overseas removals via air freight or sea freight. In the case of sea freight, it is possible to ship the removal goods as additional cargo (“LCL shipment” with Liftvan) or with a container (FCL shipment in 20 feet, 40 feet or 40 feet high cube). We will be happy to discuss which option is best for you in a personal consultation.

You will receive an invoice a few weeks after placing the order and pay the full amount directly in advance.
